Imagine waking up to the life-changing news that you’ve just won an incredible lakefront cottage on one of Ontario’s picturesque lakes. For one lucky person, this is about to become a reality. Welcome to one of the spectacular 2025 multimillion-dollar Princess Margaret Cottage Lottery summer prizes.

For almost 30 years, The Princess Margaret Lottery has given away millions of dollars in cash, homes and cottages, all with one mission – to create a world free from the fear of cancer. Each lottery home’s desirable location, custom design and support toward a worthy cause makes this a truly astonishing experience for everyone involved.

This newly built 2,049 sq. ft. cottage is one of the three stunning properties being awarded in the summer 2025 Princess Margaret Cottage Lottery. Surrounded by the renowned beauty of the Haliburton Highlands, the area is known for its 500 lakes, as well as various outdoor attractions such as Algonquin Provincial Park. In the nearby town of Haliburton, visitors can find groceries, delicious local dining experiences, small shops and art galleries. About three hours north of Toronto, the cottage is located on picturesque Kennisis Lake, the second largest lake in the Haliburton Highlands. The cottage was designed by the brilliant team at Linwood Custom Homes, a company that’s worked with the Princess Margaret Lottery for more than 15 years. The cottage sits on a spacious lot with mature trees and a magnificent waterfront, giving the property plenty of space for outdoor fun. The home’s detached garage provides lots of storage space, perfect for water toys and outdoor games. The bright and welcoming interior offers magnificent views of the lake.

The interior was designed by Angela Jones, owner and principal designer at Lakeshore Designs, and her team. “The interior is modern with a touch of country,” says Angela. Playful pops of soft blue are paired with blonde wood throughout, creating a cosy and relaxing environment. “Linwood Custom Homes really built a beautiful cottage,” Angela says. When discussing how she came up with the interior design, she explains, “Being a summer cottage, I wanted something that was bright and fresh. We went with a classic look with soft, light looking furniture that’s warm and inviting.” Perhaps one of the best perks of winning this prize, it comes fully furnished with everything you see pictured.

A feature wall was incorporated into the front hallway design to welcome guests. “We wanted to change up the railing system on the stairs going up to the loft so we could show a feature wall,” Angela explains. “Having that element as soon as you come in is a great look to carry the wood throughout and then adding the same to the fireplace.” Past the front entry is the great room that features tall, vaulted ceilings and expansive windows. An eye-catching floor-to-ceiling fireplace with a marble surround placed on blonde wood adds some texture and pattern. “I love the great room,” says Angela. “It’s the heart of the whole cottage. It overlooks the lake and it’s just a great conversation area.”

The loft space above is a great hideaway when you need a quiet moment away from the hustle and bustle. The open-concept design makes this area of the cottage ideal for entertaining family and friends or for spending some quiet time.

The kitchen is centred around an island and sits adjacent to the dining area. “Adding a hint of light blue is a fresh look in the kitchen,” says Angela. White cabinetry paired with brass hardware and a sleek tile backsplash give this kitchen a bright and inviting feel. Whether you’re looking to enjoy delicious meals indoors or out, it’s no problem. There’s a screened sunroom off the dining room. “The sunroom added by Linwood is gorgeous,” says Angela. “It’s the perfect space for entertaining, hanging out after dinner or just to enjoy a morning coffee. It’s a great transition space.” Also located off the dining room area is access to the outdoor deck, which overlooks the stunning views of the sparkling water.

The cottage has three bedrooms, as well as two-and-a-half baths. The primary bedroom and en suite are located upstairs down a small hallway, separated from the noise of the main level. Feel any of life’s stress melt away as you enjoy the bedroom’s views and luxurious en suite, located through a walk-in closet. There are two more bedrooms on the lower level and another large bathroom.

The walk-out basement with large windows and patio doors opens up to the yard. A small games section and some comfortable seating make up the common area. “The ping pong table makes a fun little area for kids,” says Angela. The laundry room, filled with custom light blue cabinetry, is also on the lower level.

Inside and out, this cottage has it all and it could be yours. Supporting The Princess Margaret Cottage Lottery is a positive, feel-good experience. “It’s all about making someone’s day a little brighter,” Angela says.
