For Jacob and Maureen Redikopp, home is more than where the heart is. It is also where craftsmanship, collaboration and decades of experience come together to shape so Jacob Redikopp mething truly special.

Nestled in the country just north of Guelph, their home sits on a beautiful property complete with a pool and Jacob’s large woodworking shop. Jacob, owner of Jacob’s Woodworking Ltd., has been creating elegant, handcrafted kitchens and custom designs for more than 35 years.

With their children now grown and out in the world, Jacob and Maureen felt it was the perfect time to create a home that would welcome the family back for shared memories and meaningful time together. In spring 2020, with the help of Bjorn Trow Construction, they began a full renovation that transformed both the main and lower levels. A thoughtfully-designed addition opened the kitchen and dining area, bringing in more space, natural light and a fresh, modern appeal.

Known for his high-quality craftsmanship and creative solutions, Jacob has worked with clients across Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo and beyond for more than 35 years. For this reno, he and his team completed much of the work themselves, including all cabinetry, trim, mouldings, vanities, built-ins, laundry room and more.

The updated layout features an open kitchen with a large island and plenty of seating, a dining area, charming pantry and a spacious living room anchored by a stone fireplace. Together, these spaces form a seamless and inviting main floor that feels connected and expansive. “The addition doesn’t feel like it’s been added on, it feels like it’s always been here,” Maureen says. “We added only 217 square feet, but it feels much bigger.” Their daughter, Katie Redikopp, played a hands-on role in decorating and design decisions. Her thoughtful vision helped create a space that feels both warm and refined.

Lighting from Paradise Lighting adds softness and atmosphere to each room, harmonized with the overall design. The walls and kitchen cabinets are painted Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, while the pantry is Caldwell Green, offering a fresh contrast. The laundry room and TV unit are painted Wrought Iron, bringing a deeper tone into the palette.

Downstairs, the transformation continues. The lower level was renovated to create an open-concept space designed for relaxing and entertaining. A large sectional invites cosy movie nights by the electric fireplace, while a big-screen TV and pool table set the tone for casual gatherings and family fun. A dedicated bar area adds both function and flair, creating the perfect setting for everything from game night and calming afternoons with a puzzle to bustling weekend hosting. A standout feature in the lower level is a full wall of custom shelving built by Jacob himself, displaying his impressive collection of Bob Dylan records – a personal archive that adds character and depth to the space.

The renovation blends traditional style with modern comfort. From its custom woodwork to the layered lighting and calming colours, the design is timeless, inviting and perfectly suited to the home’s rural setting.

What began as a renovation project has grown into something far more meaningful. Drawing on decades of experience, the home is now tailored to the family’s lifestyle, built to welcome future generations and serves as an inspiration for Jacob’s projects to come. OH
