Handstone Furniture is rooted by our commitment to quality. Started as a one-man woodworking shop in rural Ontario, more than 25 years later we remain a family-owned and operated Canadian manufacturer of custom-made solid wood furniture. Like we have since the beginning, we strive to work with our community neighbours and other Canadian businesses when sourcing raw materials. Handstone’s industry leading 10 year warranty is testament to our reverence for old-world craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Every piece of Handstone Furniture is handcrafted and hand-finished in Canada. Customers choose the wood type, stain colour, hardware, upholstery and every other element that is part of making their furniture selection unique. As each piece of furniture is hand-crafted and “built to order”, customers can even choose to customize the sizing and configuration of their individual pieces. Increase the height of a dresser or lower the height of a headboard, Handstone allows customers to personalize their furniture to their home and style. The customization process is made easy by working with an authorized Handstone retailer who can prepare a sketch of the proposed alterations. Upon submitting the sketch to Handstone, we prepare a detailed line diagram which includes measurements, cost and other details for the customer’s final approval.
For each order we still take pride in hand selecting the kiln-dried cherry, maple, red oak and walnut hardwoods used in our furniture. Focusing on the 3Fs of form, fit and function, we combine new and old-world woodworking techniques like precise CNC machines or hand sanding. Each piece of Handstone Furniture is “Crafted For Life” by using, for example, solid hardwoods, dovetailed drawers and a durable premium finish. Our furniture is heirloom quality and designed to last generations.
As rural Canadian residents, with friends and family who are farmers, we recognize and appreciate the need to be good stewards for the environment. Consequently, we work exclusively with woodlots managed by responsible operators. As well, we strive to minimize waste in all aspects of our production cycle. Since we started building furniture Handstone has repurposed all our waste sawdust as livestock bedding. Likewise, all our waste scrap wood is used to heat our own, our employees’ and our neighbours’ barns and homes. Any waste from our finishing process is recycled through MOE operators who give it a second-life. More recently we have made considerable investments in solar power generation and energy storage at our primary production and warehouse facilities. Lastly, as a Canadian furniture manufacturer we require significantly less single use packaging material than many of our competitors. Much of our furniture is shipped direct to our retail partners with minimal single–use packaging and wrapped in blankets which are reused thousands of times.
In today’s globalized world, Handstone remains as it started, a rural Canadian company dedicated to producing quality solid-wood furniture for Canadian consumers. We strive to always work with our community neighbours and other Canadian companies for the health of our local and national economies.
