Canadian Quality - Handstone Furniture
Handstone Furniture started more than 25 years ago as a one-man woodworking shop in rural Ontario. Today we remain a family-owned and operated Canadian manufacturer of custom-made solid wood furniture. Like since the beginning, we still take pride in hand selecting the kiln-dried cherry, maple, red oak and walnut hardwoods used in our furniture.
Focusing on the 3Fs of form, fit and function, we combine new and old-world woodworking techniques like precise CNC machines or hand sanding. Each piece of Handstone Furniture is “Crafted For Life” by using solid hardwoods, dovetailed drawers and a durable premium finish. With an industry leading 10 year warranty being testament to our reverence for old-world craftsmanship and attention to detail, our furniture is heirloom quality and designed to last generations.
A proudly Canadian company, each piece of Handstone Furniture is handcrafted and hand-finished in Canada. Customers choose the wood type, stain colour, hardware, upholstery and every other element that is part of making their furniture selection unique. As each piece of furniture from Handstone is hand-crafted to order, customer can choose to customise the sizing and configuration of their individual pieces. Whether it is increasing the height of a dresser or decreasing the width of a coffee table, Handstone allows customers to personalise their furniture to their requirements and style. The customization process is made easy by working with an authorised Handstone retailer who can prepare a sketch. Upon submitting the sketch to Handstone, we produce a detailed line diagram which includes measurements, cost and other details for the customer’s final approval.
Being rural Canadian residents, with friends and family who are famers, we recognize and appreciate the need to be good stewards for the environment. Consequently, we work exclusively with woodlots managed by responsible operators. As well, we strive to minimize waste in all aspects of our production cycle. Since we started building furniture Handstone has repurposed all the waste sawdust as livestock bedding. Likewise, all our waste scrap wood is used to heat our own, our employees’ and our neighbours barns and homes. Any waste from our finishing process is recycled through MOE operators who give it a second-life. More recently, Handstone has made considerable investments in solar power generation and energy storage at our primary production and warehouse facilities to further minimize our carbon footprint. Lastly, as a furniture manufacturer we require significantly less single use packaging material than many of our competitors; much of our furniture is shipped direct to our retail partners with minimal single-use packaging, instead wrapped in blankets which are reused thousands of times.
In today’s globalized world, Handstone Furniture remains as it started, a rural Canadian company dedicated to producing heirloom quality solid-wood furniture for Canadian residents. We strive to always work with our community neighbours and other Canadian companies for the health of our local and domestic economies.
