Handstone Crafted For Life: Canadian Quality
Handstone Furniture started more than 25 years ago as a one-man woodworking shop in rural Ontario. Today, they remain a family-owned and operated Canadian manufacturer of custom-made solid wood furniture. Since the beginning, they have taken pride in hand selecting the kiln-dried cherry, maple, red oak and walnut hardwoods used in their furniture.
Focusing on the 3Fs of form, fit and function, Handstone combines new and old-world woodworking techniques, such as precise CNC machines or hand sanding. Each piece of furniture is “Crafted For Life” by using solid hardwoods, dovetailed drawers and a durable premium finish. With an industry leading 10 year warranty being testament to their reverence for old-world craftsmanship and attention to detail, the furniture is heirloom quality and designed to last generations.
Each piece of Handstone furniture is handcrafted and hand-finished in Canada. Customers choose the wood type, stain colour, hardware, upholstery and every other element that is part of making their selection unique. As each piece is hand-crafted to order, customers can choose to customize the sizing and configuration of their individual pieces. Whether it is increasing the height of a dresser or decreasing the width of a coffee table, Handstone allows customers to personalize their furniture to their requirements and style. The customization process is made easy by working with an authorized Handstone retailer who can prepare a sketch. Upon submitting the sketch to Handstone, they produce a detailed line diagram which includes measurements, cost and other details for the customer’s final approval.
Being rural Canadian residents, with friends and family who are famers, the company recognizes and appreciates the need to be good stewards for the environment. Consequently, they work exclusively with woodlots managed by responsible operators. As well, they strive to minimize waste in all aspects of the production cycle. Since they started building furniture, Handstone has repurposed all the waste sawdust as livestock bedding.
Likewise, all their waste scrap wood is used to heat their own barns and homes. Any waste from the finishing process is recycled through MOE operators who give it a second-life. More recently, Handstone has made considerable investments in solar power generation and energy storage at their primary production and warehouse facilities to further minimize their carbon footprint. As a furniture manufacturer, they require significantly less single use packaging material than many competitors. Much of their furniture is shipped direct to retail partners with minimal single-use packaging and wrapped in blankets which are reused thousands of times.
In today’s globalized world, Handstone Furniture remains as it started, a rural Canadian company dedicated to producing heirloom quality solid-wood furniture for Canadian residents. They strive to always work with their community neighbours and other Canadian companies for the health of local and domestic economies.
