Adele and Archie Moore loved living in the country – the peace and quiet, the privacy and the open spaces. But they wanted more free time to enjoy together now that their children had left the house. They considered a new build, but opted for a recently renovated Regency bungalow in downtown Collingwood.
The home's previous owner had restored and renovated the home and built a large addition with the help of Scott Young of Scot-Build Developments Inc. The home had been taken back to the studs. New plumbing, new windows and doors, new wiring, new flooring (Deans Carpet One Floor & Home), in-floor heating throughout and a new kitchen were added.
A new rear addition provides for a master bedroom with a beautiful en suite (tile from Georgian Design Centre), plus a large garage, mudroom and family room. Adele is inspired by light, peaceful and airy interiors, simplicity and vintage pieces. The first step was to paint the entire house in Simply White by Benjamin Moore.
Some new furnishings were found around Collingwood, such as the antiqued custom cabinet in the family room and the area carpet from FAD Inc.
Ladders that hold throws in the spare bedroom and living room were sourced at Kettlewells as was the dining table and chairs. A large metal dish that sits on top of the glass-fronted cabinet in the dining room and an inspirational art piece that hangs in the living room were found at Lëuk as well as the linen master bedding.
Old ceiling tiles were the inspiration for twin headboards in a guest bedroom. Jody DeCoste of The Painterie implemented the idea as well as painted the Moore’s piano.
In the family room, AG Designs Co. surrounded the fireplace in reclaimed rustic barn boards that add a textural layer to the room. AG Designs Co. also constructed a sliding barn door for the closet in the master bedroom.
This home has everything that they need – a quiet street, privacy, closeness to work and walking distance to restaurants and Georgian Bay, plus very little maintenance and outdoor work. It is the right move for the next stage in their lives.
