HISTORY: A native to Wales, Carol Norris, owner of Light House Photo Gallery, felt an instant connection to the beauty of Southampton on the shores of Lake Huron when she was 16 years old, while visiting from England on a family holiday. Many years later, she packed up and moved to the quaint summer town, a place she has called home for the past 20 years. Norris always felt an urge to follow her creative instinct, but had difficulty knowing what to pursue – until she immersed herself in photography after receiving a camera as a gift. Within two years, she entered her work in competitions, won several international awards and opened her first gallery in Southampton – and she has had a gallery in the town ever since.
PASSION: With a passion for capturing wildlife, Norris will sit in farm fields for days to get the perfect shot. She has ventured to the arctic tundra to photograph seals and polar bears in temperatures of -40 C. She will get up and head out at all hours of the day to capture a shot.
THE JOURNEY: Travelling the world is part of her job and her trips are entirely focused on work. She spends months planning and timing her travels so she can capture the almond blossoms in California, the lavender in Provence, the tulips in the Netherlands. Each year she releases a new collection of images. A master purist, her photos are exactly as she sees it through the viewfinder and receive no digital retouching or alteration.
WHAT’S HOT: A new offering to the studio is printing images on white metal, which is glare free and waterproof so you can now hang art on decks and patios. Her gallery is only a small snippet of the photos she has available. Norris also carries a diverse collection of one-of-a-kind items and giftware from other Canadian artists.
SERVICES: Norris will visit your home, office or cottage to help with size, scale and colour options for art that will complement your specific space. Custom framing is a new offering at the gallery, performed by Norris’s partner Ruben Romero.
