THE PLACE: Harwood Kitchens is a custom design kitchen business that fits kitchens to customers’ needs. “We take great pride in our skills as designers,” says President Charles Harwood. That pride extends to solving problems that others can’t and giving people what they’re ultimately looking for – a beautiful kitchen that functions well. The store showcases the most up-to-date designs, current colour trends and the latest accessories that make kitchens more functional.
THE PRODUCTS: “We literally carry thousands of different door styles,” says Harwood. “With our stone, quartz is our biggest seller, but we carry granite, soapstone and butcher block.” Quartz patterns are as bold and beautiful as natural granite, but quartz is non-porous, never needs sealing and comes with excellent warranties. “It’s really fool-proof.”
THE SERVICES: “We offer full turnkey kitchen design,” says Harwood. “We’ll come in and design your kitchen, remove the old one, install the new kitchen and countertop. We’ll look after the plumbing, the electrical, the flooring, tile work, painting and HVAC. All the trades that we need to complete the job we have working with us, so we can coordinate it and get you back in your kitchen as quickly as possible.”
WHAT’S POPULAR: “At the moment, we’re selling a lot of white kitchens – white and off-whites,” says Harwood. “The Peterborough market is still a fairly traditional market so people seem to like shaker-style doors or simple recessed panel doors, as opposed to slab European-style doors, but that’s changing as our demographic is getting younger. Almost any colour countertop seems to be selling well at the moment.”
WHAT’S HOT: LED lighting inside cabinetry and underneath.“It’s very low energy use and comes in a nice choice of light shades,” says Harwood. “It can be warm, it can be cool. It’s very easy to install and very small so it doesn’t require a lot of space either in the cabinets or under the cabinets.”
