DAVID & NEVIO BANKO
Monticello Carpentry, Stoney Creek

Tell us about Monticello Carpentry: We’re a father and son team that’s finished thousands of homes in Niagara, Hamilton and Halton regions since 2002. Custom finishing carpentry is our specialty with a focus on designing and creating projects, such as bookshelves, decorative ceilings, wall panelling, and wine racks.

What do you love most about the work you do? I love the creativity of finishing carpentry and bringing a homeowner’s ideas together. It is very rewarding turning a homeowner’s photos and vision into their dream home.

When stopping at a farm stand, are you most likely to buy Niagara strawberries or peaches? Strawberries.

JENNIFER KAUFMAN & KRIS KAUFMAN
Kenmore Homes, Niagara Falls

Tell us about Kenmore Homes? Kenmore Homes has been building superior quality residential homes in Southwestern Ontario for over half a century. It’s a family-owned and operated business spanning into the third generation. The professionals at Kenmore Homes understand the importance of building and buying a home. We take pride in providing our purchasers with a superior level of product and personalized service.

What are some of Kenmore Homes’ current projects in Niagara? We’ve just released Hansler Heights, on the Thorold- Welland city border, which has a mixture of well-appointed single family homes and townhomes. We’re also excited to unveil Terravita in Niagara Falls this summer, which will feature 80 exquisite, architecturally controlled bungalows, bungalow-lofts and two-storey, single-family homes.

Would you rather spend a day off at a Niagara beach or hiking in the region? Jenn: I don’t like to sit still, so I would love if I had a day off to spend hiking in the region. We’re very lucky to live in a region that has a hiking route as incredible as the Bruce Trail. Kris: I would definitely do the opposite of my sister and bring the kids to one of our amazing beaches for a day of fun in the sun and water.

SANTY YEH & KATE AGATE
Designs By Santy, St. Catharines

What is Designs by Santy? Designs by Santy is a boutique architectural design company with a focus on custom homes and large renovations. I started the company in 2010 in pursuit of creative freedom and for the idea of doing something for myself. I’ve kept the company small so I can maintain a high level of quality. We’re mainly focused in Niagara and have a great rapport with many custom homebuilders and unique clients.

What drew you to architecture? It was a combination of analytical and creative. This blended well with my artistic side plus I did well in mathematics when I was younger. I took drafting courses in high school, which opened the door to this field. When I studied architecture at Ryerson University, I fell in love with the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and Tadao Ando.

The best view in Niagara is… The best view in Niagara for me involves houses so I’ll let you know my favourite. The prettiest stretch of road with a large variety of homes is the Niagara Parkway from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake. Sometimes for inspiration I take an afternoon drive along this stretch.
