JOHN VRANIC

Vranic Homes is a custom home building company that started in 2003 in London and began expanding into communities around the city 10 years ago. We have a one-on-one relationship with our homeowners and clients. Our slogan is, “We don’t just build homes, we build relationships.”

AT WORK
Latest Project: Edgewater Estates, a high end subdivision in Kilworth. What I Love About My Job: The end result and happy clients. No Home Should Be Without: A beautifully designed and practical kitchen.

AT HOME
On Living In Komoka: I like its proximity to London but also the small-town feel of this community and its great amenities. Favourite Room: Our kitchen, where my wife Alison and I enjoy cooking together every night. When Building Our Home, The Challenge Was: Staying within our budget.

AL & KAREN STEWART & DANIELLE HOEVENAARS

Westland is co-owned by Al and Karen Stewart. The gallery showcases emerging and established local and area artists and hosts regular group and solo exhibitions.

AT WORK
We love the people we meet. We have an incredible team of employees and we work with amazing artists who bring joy to so many with their work. FYI: The idea for the gallery came from Gene Lamont. He lived in Wortley Village and ran a pharmacy then later an antique shop in the Westland building. A passionate collector and good friend of Karen and Al Stewart, Gene dreamed up the plan for Westland Gallery at the age of 91. ADVICE: Buy the piece you love when you see it.

FAVOURITES
Al: Canadian landscape painting. Karen: Bold and colourful contemporary art. Danielle: Figurative sculpture and drawing. Galleries We Love: Al: Musée de l’Orangerie. Karen: Museum London. Danielle: National Gallery of Canada.

ANGELA BAKER

AH Design is a kitchen and bath cabinetry and design business serving London, St. Thomas and southwestern Ontario. Now I’m also working in real estate with PC275 Realty. I was always interested in the real estate world. Finally the opportunity came along and I find my businesses mesh together perfectly!

AT WORK
Joys Of The Job: The before-and-after thrill of a reno, seeing plans come to life in a new build and simply helping people make their lives better by finding a home they love. Favourite Cabinetry: Classic and timeless with touches of current influence. Design Inspiration: It could be a client’s favourite colour, a walk in nature, a favourite art history book. Then the right music while designing helps lead the way!

AT HOME
Favourite Room: My fiancé calls it my She Den, a cosy bonus room off our master bedroom with a sofa, chaise lounge and fuzzy blanket.

The Best Of Both Worlds: Paul Bilyea: “By combining the latest technology with old-school techniques, we maximize efficiency without sacrificing craftsmanship and customization.” Design Excellence: Chris Haindl: “We craft spaces and each of us is committed to designing and building objects that are beautiful to behold and a joy to use.” Standing Apart: Elias Polizoes: “We were drawn to each other’s uniqueness, and the point of the project is to celebrate the idiosyncrasies and individuality that underwrite the creative process.”

We are a family operation that has specialized in hydronic floor heating since 1992. We were one of the first plumbing companies to start showing the advantages of this type of heating in homes, commercial buildings, agriculture and more.

AT WORK
Installation Timeframe: It totally depends on size. In a 2,000 sq. ft. basement, approximately 10-12 hours. Can You Retrofit? Most definitely, and we do it all the time! For basements, we have a foam board with aluminum covering that we glue down on the concrete floor. Tubing is then installed on the board, and the floor on top of that.

AT HOME
We Love Hydronic Floor Heating Because: It is considered the most energy efficient and healthy heating available. No dust gets blown around, making the house very comfortable to live in. St. Marys Hometown Proud: It’s a historic and friendly farm community with down to earth people and, of course, the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame!
