Winter 2018/2019 //Local talent you'll be glad to meet from the Hamilton area.

OUR HOMES Hamilton Winter 2018/2019A version of this article originally appeared in the Winter 2018/2019 issue of  OUR HOMES Hamilton and Area, p.64. Find local businesses in our Hamilton directory

We are so thankful to have these talented people onside to help us make our homes and OUR HOMES beautiful and welcoming. We thought it would be warming to know what they are grateful for…
MARY CATH ALTOBELLI

What do you do? I look, listen and learn. As an interior decorator, I look at a space and find all the opportunities, assess the natural light and the architectural details. Then I listen to my client, finding out what they love or unlove about the space, how they like to use it, and what they need it to do for them. Then comes the learning, where I call on my team of trades and retailers for their talents and expertise. Tradespeople like Ridgeline Renovations, Michael Thomas Antiques and Ottawa Textiles; together we look for the best solutions to give clients a space they can enjoy for years to come.

What’s your advice for holiday decorating? Be authentic. Decorating trends come and go but your favourite traditions are timeless. Celebrate your individuality. If Aunt Lucille’s music box is special, give it a place of pride.

What is bringing you joy this season? This season, last season, next season… my family!

JOHN & NANCY DUFFY

Tell us about your services: My painting company has been a family-run business in the Hamilton and surrounding areas for over 60 years. With highly skilled career painters, we paint every job like it was our own; seeking excellent value, on-time performance, tidiness and honest communication for every client. We specialize in residential and commercial painting, both interior and exterior. From powder rooms to complete homes, renovations, churches and offices, we remove wallpaper, polyfill defects, caulk, sand, prime and paint. We do it all!

What trends are you seeing? We’re seeing the continuation of warm greys and the earth tone colours. Even after years and years they remain ever popular.

What are you thankful for this year? We are thankful for our loyal customers and employees. Some customers are third generation and some employees have been with our company for 30 years.

STELLA DICESARE & SHERRY COCKWELL

Advice for home entertaining? At Sobeys we believe that memories are made around the dinner table. This holiday season allows our Sobeys family to do the work for you while you spend your time with family making new memories. We offer a large range of entertaining options, from our quick and easy online ordering site to a great selection of Sensations frozen appetizers, desserts and fresh grab-and-go trays.

Favourite products? I think we are in agreement when we say that most of our favourites in the store come from our bakery department. We love the selection of fresh, delicious treats.

What about your jobs makes you smile? Having the opportunity to spend time with people every day makes us smile. We are grateful and fortunate to be surrounded by an amazing team that shares our passion for family and food, and the folks who come through our doors are wonderful and interesting.

Tell us about your business: Salnek’s Custom Window Treatments is a local one-stop shopping destination for custom window coverings. Over the past 30 years we have grown our locations to include Burlington, Dundas, mid-town Toronto, Markham, Barrie and Collingwood, and we employ more than 25 consultants. Our products now range from blinds, shutters and custom drapery to motorization and automation.

What sets Salnek’s apart? We pride ourselves on working side-by-side with our clients to accomplish their design vision. We discuss the specifics of the project, help determine the budget and make some preliminary design suggestions. Our team guides and advises – from the initial consult to the final installation.

Why are you joyous this season? We are thankful for the opportunity to build great relationships with our clients over the years (which makes our job so much more fulfilling), and for our dedicated teams that bring their visions to fruition.

JORGE PAVLOVICH

What services do you offer? We do kitchens, bathrooms, basements, full house renovations, additions and custom homes.

Tell us about your team: We work with high quality subcontractors, employees and suppliers. It has taken us a long time to find the right people who take as much care and pride as we do when it comes to our customers. We strive for excellence and the highest of quality finishes for our clients, who deserve nothing but the best.

What are you counting among your blessings? We’re very thankful and blessed to have both a wonderful team to help us achieve our dreams, making sure our customers are satisfied to the fullest extent, and clients who trust us to be a part of their family. We must also mention our partners at The Wright Kitchen in Ancaster and Burlington, who contribute to our success. We look forward to continuing building relationships and our clients’ dream homes in our community of Ancaster, Dundas, Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Burlington and Oakville.
