7 Inspiring Kitchen Designs You'll Crave

Dreaming of a new kitchen? We've got your inspiration in Southern Georgian Bay.

The kitchen is the heart of the home. We bring you seven one-of-a-kind kitchen makeovers by designers and craftspeople in Southern Georgian Bay.
1. SERENE CONTEMPORARY

This bar and a downstairs kitchen (still in progress) are all about thoughtful design. Owner Margaret Dabrowski Sickle knew exactly what she wanted – Douglas fir cabinets and counters and discrete LEDs to light up each shelf. Millard Bautista Designs executed the design perfectly. A vertical grain finish on the cabinets hides a surprise – deep, soft-close, double-depth drawers. A second drawer makes sure nothing gets lost at the bottom.
DESIGNER & HOMEOWNER: Margaret Dabrowski Sickle, M. Arc, OAA.
CABINETRY: Flat-sawn, vertical-grain Douglas fir.
COUNTERS: Douglas fir.
HARDWARE: Silver finger pulls on bar, polished nickel bullets in kitchen.
FAVOURITE ADD-ON: LED shelf lighting.
2. INSPIRED SHADES

The heart of Lindsay Herbert’s home is her kitchen where her young family gathers. The owner of Baywood Designs, Lindsay knew just where to start when it came to tackling her own kitchen project. Her inspiration was Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, which she sells and works with on custom projects for clients. From the stained shiplap walls to the island, her painting technique transformed this country kitchen.
KITCHEN: Baywood Designs.
HOMEOWNER: Lindsay Herbert.
CABINETRY: Shaker style.
CABINET FINISH: Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in a 50/50 blend of Pure White & Old White.
ISLAND FINISH: Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite over French Linen, distressed with black wax.

SHIPLAP WALL FINISH: Annie Sloan Curio finished with dark wax.

FLOOR TILE: The Flooring Place: Porcelain plank, wood-look.
FLOWERS: Sideroad Farm Floral in a container provided by Butternut Mercantile.
FAVOURITE ADD-ON: Everything.

3. FRESH LIGHT

Cabneato updates your kitchen by replacing doors and hardware while using your existing cabinets. This appealed to Jane Doyle. She liked the design of her kitchen but just wanted a more up-to-date look. From a long list of options, she chose white shaker-style cabinets. Cabneato added crown moulding and grey quartz counters. Jane also had Cabneato convert a single door unit to a three-drawer cabinet. The timeline for this fresh look was about eight weeks. The biggest advantage was being able to continue using her kitchen with very little disruption.

4. VICTORIAN COFFERED

When the Himes family bought this home in Collingwood they loved everything but the kitchen and dining room, which were two separate small rooms. Corinthian Kitchen & Bath Studio started the project by taking down the wall between the two rooms and extending the beautiful coffered ceiling from the dining room right through to the new kitchen, creating a luxurious and unified space for entertaining.

6. RUSTIC WARMTH

Having renovated a number of kitchens, Rob and Patricia Smith have fine-tuned the list of what works and what doesn’t. In this compact kitchen, space is at a premium and there are many little details that help add more room, including having the cabinets reach right to the ceiling to grab those extra inches. Collingwood Home Hardware Building Centre was on the same page and helped to give the Smiths as much cupboard space as possible. The deep corner units have blind corner organizers.
HOMEOWNERS: Rob & Patricia Smith.
CABINETRY: Shaker-style.
CABINET FINISH: White.
COUNTERS: Caesarstone in Rugged Concrete.
HARDWARE: Polished nickel.

7. SHADOW DANCING

Angie Smith interviewed a number of potential contractors to tackle her kitchen renovation, but says South Gate Cabinets was really listening to her and understood her vision. She was impressed by their attention to the finest detail. The highlight of the design is the range hood. Some of the walls in the kitchen were bowed, so South Gate Cabinets scribed the backs of cabinets to fit flush, just like everything in this space.
KITCHEN: South Gate Cabinets.
HOMEOWNER: Angie Smith.
CABINETRY: Westport Door.
CABINET FINISH: Benjamin Moore’s City Shadow and Collingwood.
HARDWARE: Brushed nickel.
COUNTERS: Di Pietra Design: Quartzite.
