Craig Ashton and Guy Laporte
THE PLACE: On Collingwood’s historic main street, the old Smart’s Flowers location has a fresh look and a new name, Collingwood Flowers & Home Decor. Owners Craig Ashton and Guy Laporte also operate the Craigleith Manor Bed & Breakfast and were very familiar with Smart’s, so when the opportunity to acquire the business presented itself, they didn’t have to think for long. Ashton has years of experience in interior design and floral arranging and had a vision for how to reimagine the historic space. They both wanted it to be more than flowers. Now, there’s a very carefully curated and thoughtful selection of urban chic home accessories that complements the fresh flowers.
THE STYLE: Shelving painted Gray Cloud by Benjamin Moore and white walls set the stage for the huge selection of colourful blooms. The atmosphere inspires. A single stem carefully placed in just the right container, or a colourful arrangement placed on a wooden side table, all are beautiful. The items are perfect for the cottage, chalet, office or your home.
THE WARES: For more floral inspiration, check out their website for unique and original flower designs. Nothing cookie cutter here. Ashton and Laporte offer their customers a fresh modern take on ordering flowers. As Creative Director, Ashton oversees in-house floral designers working with unique fresh flowers and greens delivered three times a week. Top-quality flowers and greens artfully arranged put a smile on everyone who gives or receives one of their incredible arrangements.
WHAT’S HOT: Pick a vase from the vast selection of beautiful and unique vessels. Create your own fresh, loose bouquet from bountiful flowers in the new walk-in fridge. The talented staff will help put it all together. There’s also an impressive variety of gift baskets that are themed, full of local products and available year round. Come for a visit, you won’t leave empty handed.
