DIY Paint Chip Heart Art

February 09, 2015 | STORY BY TARA CHATTELL | PHOTOGRAPHY BY TARA CHATTELL

Show your walls some love with this pretty paint chip wall art. Instead of throwing out those paint chips you’ve collected while choosing your paint colours, make them into something pretty for your home. You can use any colours you like in any shape you like! We’ve chosen a heart-shape theme, in shades of pink, in honour of Valentines Day.

What You'll Need:

Paint Chips
Heart Shape Paper Punch (or any shape you choose)
Deep Frames
Card Stock (cut to fit your frame)
Pop-Dots With Double-Sided Adhesive
Scissors
Pencil
Hot Glue Gun
Ruler

Project Instructions:

Square Colour-Fade Design How-To:

Step 1 Punch out small hearts from your paint chips.

Step 2 Arrange in desired pattern to fit the size of your frame, before you start sticking the hearts to your card stock.

Step 3 You can use a ruler to measure out exactly where you’d like to place each heart and make little marks with a pencil or, you can just eye-ball it if you're good at that sort of thing.

Step 4 Place a pop dot on the back of each heart and stick it in place on your card stock. We’ve used half-inch pop-dots and cut them into quarters, that way they fit the little hearts perfectly.

Step 5 Once you’ve finished sticking all your hearts, place your beautiful work of art in a frame and hang it on your wall!

Large Heart Shaped Design How-To:

Step 1 Punch out small hearts from your paint chips.

Step 2 Fold each heart over a straight edge, like a ruler, so they have a slight bend.

Step 3 With a pencil, faintly draw a large heart shape on your card stock.

Step 4 Starting with the outline of your large heart shape, begin hot-gluing small hearts to the card stock. Once the outline is complete, you can continue filling in the rest.

Step 5 Once you've filled in the entire shape, place it in a frame and you’re done!
