A Valentine's Day Art Project

Make your sweetheart something extra-special this Valentine's Day. These gold-leaf jars are a cute and easy Valentine's Day art project. Fill them with candy, tie on a tag with some pretty ribbon and you have a sweet, handmade gift! The jars also make pretty votive candleholders once the candy is all gone.

What you'll need:

Small Glass Jars
Gold Leaf Sheets
Scissors
Pencil
Spray Adhesive
Candy
Ribbon
Small Gift Tag

Project Instructions:

tep 1 Open each of the bags of pine cones so there is a variety of sizes to work with.

step 2  Lay the first few onto the grapevine wreath to see how you want to arrange them. Use the wire cutter to cut away some of the pinecone scales so that it fits/lies more snugly on the wreath.

step 3  Hot glue the pinecones onto the wreath. Be generous with the hot glue. Add smaller pinecones to fill holes and gaps. Continue around the entire wreath.

step 4  Let the glue completely dry and harden before spray painting.

step 5  Follow the directions on the can and spray paint the entire wreath, making sure to get in and under the pine cones. Let dry.

step 6  Tie burlap ribbon through the wreath the make a hanger.

step 1 Keep a sheet of gold leaf sandwiched between two sheets of protective tissue paper included in your gold leaf kit. Gold leaf is very, very delicate, so handle with care through this entire process.

step 2  Draw a heart shape, in the desired size, on the top piece of tissue paper. Carefully cut out the shape, cutting through all three layers.

step 3  Place your heart on a sheet of paper and gently remove the top piece of tissue, revealing the gold-leaf heart.

step 4  Spray the gold-leaf heart with adhesive. Be sure to spray from straight above. If you spray on an angle, then you risk blowing the edge of the gold leaf and ruining your heart shape.

step 5 Slowly press the jar down onto the gold-leaf heart.

step 6 Gently apply a bit of pressure with your finger and rub over the tissue to ensure the gold leaf fully adheres to the jar.

step 7 Gently peel back the tissue to reveal your gold-leaf heart.

step 8 Fill your jar with candy, tie on a gift tag with some ribbon, and you’re done!
