Whitewashed Weekender Ripe with Rustic Chandeliers

A Lake Vernon lake house welcomes visitors after refreshing renovations.

Originally built in the 1990s, an outdated cottage on Lake Vernon was transformed into a stylish lakefront home with the help of Muskoka Custom Cottages

Looking for a place to gather a large, grown family, these homeowners opted to work with the existing structure rather than rebuild. They started by resealing the original whitewashed pine walls and ceilings, giving them a fresh coat of Simply White by Benjamin Moore, and refinished the original fir and elm floors.

Looking up from the cutting board in the expanded kitchen, there is a beautiful view of the lake through large new windows by Muskoka Window & Door Centre. Separated from the kitchen by a double-sided fireplace, the living room also has a spectacular view of Lake Vernon at sunset. Designer Tary Roosien of Urban Rustic Living outfitted the room with teal, corals and yellows giving it a bright and happy look.

The calming second floor master bedroom features blackout blinds by Window Quilt (Muskoka), for a good night’s sleep and glossy white-framed, wooden, chevron-patterned head and footboards. The main-floor bedrooms celebrate Muskoka with fun prints and wood accents, completing the cottage feel. The second floor of the garage is home to the man cave, which is furnished with a pool table, dining bar, kitchenette and a big screen.

From bleak to beach themed, this Lake Vernon cottage welcomes everyone with open arms; with enough space to entertain a crowd and relax when need be.
