Looking for a "retreat within the city to enjoy year round," the Trivieris custom built this 5,000 sq. ft. home on the Martindale River, on St. Catherines' western edge. "We were looking for something with water," says Roseanne Triveri of her and her husband, John's decision to build, "we wanted something that had a Muskoka feel that we didn't have to leave the city for."
A spectacular view of the pond and the starting gates for the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course can be enjoyed through the wall of windows at the back of the home. The interior of the home is filled with contemporary elements that add an elegant feel. "My other house was filled with colours. This one called out 'white' like the peaceful swans that we now wake up to every morning," Roseanne notes.
The all-white kitchen cabinetry is paired with quartz countertops and barstools by Orchard Park Kitchens & Millwork. Dark hardwood flooring runs throughout the home, contrasting with the light-coloured walls in Dove White, by Benjamin Moore. The exterior of the home reminds John of "a rustic castle," but the stonework doesn't stop there. Paying homage to the natural beauty of the property, the Trivieris had an earth-toned flagstone fireplace surround built, the same stone can be found on a curved wall in the master bedroom. The master ensuite features tiles and stone from Aristocrat Floors of the World.
Roseanne's reading nook in the family room features a floor-to-ceiling bookcase, with a shiny chrome ladder and bright, tall windows overlooking the property. The main floor continues to impress guests with a gleaming black grand piano just off the dining room, featuring a custom wood table that seats 20. Beyond the piano, a beautiful, curved wood-and-glass staircase, by Amber Stairs & Railings, winds upstairs.
The Trivieris cottage-in-the-city is everything they could have hoped for, they have fallen in love with rowing and spend their Saturday mornings by the pond, coffee in hand, and watch the swans float by.
