An Oakville couple spotted a 4,000 sq. ft. Mattamy Homes build with a unique floorplan. They called on friend and designer Toula Piliouras of Toula Interiors, to guide them through the design process. Toula’s incredibly creative cabinetry designs anchor each room in this home, from the kitchen to the home office, to the bedrooms.
“Although the home was new, we wanted to ensure that it had the feeling of a space that was livable and inviting,” says Toula. “I didn’t want it to scream new and untouchable, I wanted it to be sophisticated and polished but welcoming and durable.” Together, she helped the owners narrow their choices to include walnut finishings and creative mouldings and wainscoting that creates a warm, inviting space.
A chic bar area with argyle zebra cabinetry takes centre stage. File cabinets tuck away to allow the space to serve double duty as a bar or a home office. The home’s audio, visual and home automation systems were installed by Oakville Sight & Sound.
Décor pieces from Accents for Living were incorporated throughout the home. In the dining room, the home got a striking arabesque ceiling detail painted in burnished gold. Lighting from Gerrie Electric ties into the metallic elements.
The living room layers soft creams and greys. A tufted sofa with rolled arms, gold and marble lamps and panelling add elegance. Walls are opened with banisters to provide unfettered sightlines to the library above and the bar area below.
Glass fridges in the kitchen encourage the owners to and keep the fridges tidy and visually appealing, and showcase the family’s healthy eating habits. Light and airy, white cabinetry complemented by a maple island and polished chrome drawers. Statuario quartz countertops add sophistication, as does a band of chrome to highlight the elegant range hood.
From top to bottom, the home is a reflection of the family, from what they love to how they live.
