Derek Watson of Watson Group Homes was tasked with building this family a home in Midland before school started in September. This new home was built with family in mind, and the design combined floor plans from two of Derek's previous projects.

The home is a mix between modern and rustic, with a stone-faced exterior that enjoys a gorgeous forest backdrop. The homeowners strategized to maintain clutter-free spaces while designing their home to be family-friendly. A sylish modern living room pairs beautifully with the floor-to-ceiling, dry-stacked fireplace – inspired by the Craigleith Ski Club.

A focal point in the kitchen, the 10-foot Cambria Quartz island is surrounded by stainless steel appliances and the room's sparkling penny tile backsplash was installed by Alair Homes Georgian Bay.

Oak engineered hardwood floors from Carpet One Floor & Home run throughout the home. The rustic atmosphere of the dining area comes from the distressed-pine table and matching bench. An oak staircase by Barrie Trim & Mouldings Inc. leads to the lower level, where the family built a recreational space including dance studio and a hockey room for the kids.

The master wing features a stunning ensuite with tiles from Tilemaster and a rectangular soaker tub. Accessed through a large barn door, the childrens' rooms both feature built-in window seats that they use every day. Planning for their teenage years, the homeowners designed an adjoining bathroom.

Heading into their sixth summer, this family continues to enjoy their custom home that was built and designed to meet their every need.
