Its no surprise that when you're in the business of crafting spaces for other people's homes, your home is likely to take second fiddle. That's why Brian and Shannon Walls, owners of Bricon Contracting, have never had the chance to renovate their 53-year-old bungalow in one shot. "We did the home in stages," Shannon says. Luckily they have been able to transform their home to meet their changing needs as their kids have grown into teenagers.

Many of the family's renovation decisions for their home, in the Deer Ridge neighbourhood in Kitchener, revolved around their kids. The whole second level loft area is dedicated to the teens. Upstairs there is a home gym, two entertainment spaces/chill areas and both of the kids' bedrooms.

The living area is just beyond the front foyer and is connected to the open-concept kitchen and dining areas. Tall windows from Golden Windows Limited line the back walls, overlooking the fabulous yard. The yard features a pool and cabana, an outdoor deck for dining al fresco, built-in pizza oven, and is home to the family chickens!

With an addition on the rear of the home and the addition of a powder room on the main floor, the Walls have opened up their home to new possibilities. Big on entertaining, they now have enough space for all ages to spread out, but also come together as a family- because that what a home is for.
