This spacious house ouside Cambridge had been designed and built by a couple who never ended up living in the home. They had collected fixtures and finishes over the course of a few years prior to building this masterpiece, but were unable to complete the project. In 2014, a Kitchener family of six fell in love with it and relocated to the treed, 60-acre property.
The home was built with detail and carefully curated style decisions, from vanities and sinks to flooring, moulding and trim. The family changed a few rooms to suit their needs when they moved in, bringing in Bricon Contracting to close in the sunroom to enlarge their day-to-day living space.
An expansive window-and-door system on the sunroom calls the outside in and the family loves the raw earthiness of the final result. A wood-burning fireplace warms the space in winter and large glass doors walk out to the gorgeous swimming pool and yard in summer.
For the interior, the Huttons asked Linda Dolman-Weddel from Accents For Living in Guelph to help with their design and décor choices. Her biggest piece of advice: the large rooms with soaring ceilings don’t need a lot of small accessories. Less is more in this home.
